By joining the social change community for Guide Dogs NSW/ACT you’ll receive newsletters design to help build your knowledge and understanding about people with low vision or blindness, including the societal challenges they face in areas such as public transport, employment, education, healthcare, community belonging and safety.

All we ask is that you make the following commitments:

  • Be open and curious about learning.
  • Stay up to date on issues the low vision and blindness community faces.
  • Share our Inclusion Ally message and what you learn on your social media, in your workplace, or with friends and family.

You’ll receive a welcome email from our Community Mobilisers, who will introduce themselves and share their lived experience of low vision or blindness.

They’ll keep you updated on everything you need to know, from the do’s and don’ts of allyship and our latest advocacy campaigns, to legislation Guide Dogs NSW/ACT is advocating for and simple resources you can share to help educate those around you.

You’ll also be invited to exclusive Inclusion Ally events and learning sessions, with opportunities to share your ideas about what needs to change and propose possible solutions.

Your commitment can be small but mighty, like signing a petition, or you can choose to step up and become an active participant in campaigning for societal change. Either way, your voice and contribution are greatly appreciated.

We need every ally we can. By join the social change community, you can help us make the world a more accessible place for people with low vision or blindness.

Did you know?

  • Almost 50% of people who have a Guide Dog experience access refusals in rideshares and taxis.
  • According to a 2023 Guide Dogs Australia National Survey conducted by EY Sweeney, 96% of respondents with low vision or blindness experienced some form of access barrier in the physical environment, refusal of services, digital barriers or access to information.
  • Despite record-high employment overall, disability employment rates in Australia have barely shifted in 30 years. This is a systems gap, not a talent gap.

"An Inclusion Ally is someone who supports people with disabilities even if they don’t have a disability themselves. Someone who understands, listens and is respectful makes a good ally."
